Padlocks- Basic Information

When buying a padlock online, you will be given a load of options to choose from.  There are many different types of padlocks, which have many applications.  Then, there are the 6 different dimensions, you are given. It can be a bit confusing!

Here we have tried to give you the information you need to confidently buy a padlock online.

Whilst, the design of a padlock remains relatively the same, there are several different types which all have features that make them more or less suitable for certain applications.  Below we explain the most basic difference between the different types.

 BRASS PADLOCKS

The most popular padlocks suitable for everyday uses, with limited protection against the elements.

LAMINATED PADLOCKS

A good alternative to brass with better weather protection at competitive prices.  

WEATHERPROOF/ MARINE GRADE PADLOCKS

Extreme weather protection for harsh external or marine environments.  

DISCUS PADLOCKS     

Discus padlocks offer closed shackle locking at economic prices.  Use with speciality hasps for extra security. 

SHUTTER PADLOCKS

Hardened padlocks offer versatile locking and are particularly useful for roller shutters.

LEVER PADLOCKS

Heavy duty padlocks, offer a high level of security with lever mechanisms.     

FIRE BRIGADE PADLOCKS

Supplied keyed to precut keys and used on public buildings which require emergency access.                                          

HIGH SECURITY PADLOCKS

Offer a higher specification protection against attack and corrosion.

CEN RATED PADLOCKS

CEN is the European standard that is required by certain contracts and insurance companies.

COMBINATION PADLOCKS

Locking without a key, combination padlocks are available in low to high security.
